Itchy Dance Costume!? | What we tried for my daughter's costume!

Hi Dance Mommin' (Daddin') World!

Has your child ever had an itchy costume/dance wear or simply makes marks on their skin?  My daughter's Jazz Competition Dance Costume this year (2018) was very itchy and worse than that began rubbing red marks on her skin.  Sometimes they have to wear these costumes for hours waiting for their dance to go on...so it does matter.  I searched and searched and found this awesome "tape."  I wanted something that didn't require putting something on her skin or wearing extra layers underneath and his is what I found.

Check out her video to see how I put the tape on this tricky costume.  It is tricky as she is very small and the costume straps are tiny but I made it work and she has no marks!

Let me know if you have tried this and what you think?  Also...help my daughter reach 100 subscribers on her channel by subscribing, sharing her videos, hitting the bell to not miss any videos, watch the video and other videos she has plus...if you can...give her a thumbs up (like).  Her Birthday is in March and would love to have her reach 100 subs by the second week of March.

Love,
Dance Mommin' Melanie

My Girl's Competition Rolling Garment Dance Bag

Check out my daughter's latest YouTube Video...finally a "dance video!"  :-)  This video is how much she gets into her Dream Duffel (not sponsored and I do not represent this company; however, I love their products).  She has the small.  I am afraid after this season we will need to upgrade to the Medium!  Any thoughts on the Dream Duffel sizes and what you use for your dancer?  How many costumes and items do you fit into your rolling garment bag?  Do you use another brand?  This Dance Mom is "all ears!"  I am always looking to make competition time as easy and smooth as possible. Also, the less bags, the better! LOL

Thank you for your comments on this!  Seriously, could use any advice!  This is just my second year as a competition "Dance Mom."

Without further adieu...here is the video:  (it is always helpful for my girl for fellow dancers/dance moms to "like, share, view, subscribe (hit the bell), and comment" on any of her videos!  Are you a youtuber too?  Let me know in the comments so I can follow and all the above!  :-)

2017-18 Dance Season has officially begun!

School is back in session and so is Dance!

It is an exciting time....seeing who is on the team(s); what songs might be "the song"; and just simply getting into the schedule for the season.  So far so good!

I am getting my girl to her classes on time.  It isn't easy since two of her classes begin at 4:30 and I don't get off work until 4:15.  We are making it though.  My daughter changes while I finish up "bus duty." (Yep...I am a teacher...blessed for what time I get off work and the fact the studio is only 5 minutes from the school.  Don't understand how other moms do it!?)

Making friends at the studio has been a blessing for my daughter and myself as well.  I have had a couple moms volunteer over the summer to pick up my girl for those early classes since their daughters are also at my school and they are going to the same place, etc... So I really appreciate these amazing "Dance Moms" that are at the studio.  I haven't had to take them up on it yet; however, it is so nice that if I get called to a meeting or just simply there is no way I can get her there...I can count on these ladies.

My girl has 6 classes one week and then 7 classes on the opposite weeks.  (One dance is only every other week.)  Due to the fact she is in only team classes...(and you all know this)...I can not discuss details of any of her classes.  Sometimes this is the hardest part....confidentiality of the dance team life.  :-)  It can be great for us all as well.  We live in a world of "over sharing" so this dance "no no" is a good way to be the "old normal."  At least I feel that way.  Just get to watch her dance and chat with other moms and dads about the day without picking up the phone to snap a pic of every move.  LOL  :-)

Happy Dance Mommin' out there!
Sorry to cut this short...it's the weekend and this mom just wants to relax.

Sincerely,
Dance Mommin' Melanie

Makeup Products that are must haves for Dance!

Makeup Must Haves

I learned a lot (not everything...for sure) about makeup and hair last competition season.  I definitely feel more prepared for this year.  Of course, I do not yet know the Hair Style requirements yet.  :-)  (Praying it will be easy for me but I also love learning how to do new things.)

I learned when preparing to put makeup on my tiny dancer that primer was important for the eyelids to keep the eye shadow in place and go on smoother.

Here is a favorite from Avon:
 Eyeshadow Primer

Another fabulous item I just never got to purchase last year because I got the advice kinda late into the dance comp season is Makeup Setting Spray!  I have already purchased mine for my girl for this upcoming season.  Can't wait to use it as it takes sooo long to get all that makeup on.  Nice to know I have something to set it and keep the makeup in place!
Do you have your setting spray yet?
Check it out here:

 Makeup Setting Spray

I will blog some more about Hair and Makeup in upcoming posts but I will leave it at these two fave must haves for dancers now.  I will add my fave Hair Spray is by Big Sexy (c) and it is the Spray and Play(c).  It was also recommended to use the Big Sexy (c) Powder Play (c). (I am not associated with Big Sexy just an excited customer that loves their products.)

Paying for Dance

Topic: Supplementing the cost of Dance!  $$$ (or trying to)

Hi Dance Mom Friends:

I absolutely love my daughter dancing!  She is currently taking 5 summer classes plus a gymnastics/tumbling class this summer.  With this said...you know (because you are most likely a dance mom yourself if reading this) that this amount of classes adds up to an expense.  We also know that this means more dance clothes, shoes (they outgrow them faster than we like), hair accessories, team wear and just so much more to purchase.  Don't get me wrong...I love every single thing I buy for my daughter. I am loving it! It does get expensive.

So, what to do with all of these added expenses?  At first my plan was to do nothing...just cut down on eating out, not buying this or that...etc...  Then I got to thinking about it...I will let this be my motivation to find ways to bring more money into our household to pay for dance!

1) My first way is a new adventure for me:  Selling Avon!  www.youravon.com/MelanieR or www.MakeupCalling.com (you can sell Avon also...just go to my page and click to become a representative...use my reference code when signing up:  MelanieR  This would be cool to have a "team" of Dance Moms selling Avon.) I have also created a facebook Avon page (Feel free to "like" and follow!):  www.facebook.com/BeautyByMelanieR  or

Avon Lady Melanie R
Buy Avon from me or Sell Avon with me!
Email me for information:  BeautyByMelanieR@gmail.com

2) My second way will be getting back into making my handmade jewelry that I had gotten away from because of being into both of my children's activities. Now, my hobby/side money is now relevant again.  I will not feel guilty as my creations will now help fund my children's activities.  They are both old enough to "get it" and understand and even help with some things.  They are also excited about it because they are old enough to enjoy the process and watch something being created and I can teach them how to make/create/design jewelry, etc... for themselves!  You can see my jewelry at the following links:  Site:  www.MelanieR.com  Etsy: www.MelanieR.etsy.com (this may not have jewelry yet due to just getting started back but you can see my hubby's Amazing Drawings for now!)  Facebook:  www.facebook.com/macramemelanie

Thank you for reading...help a dance mom out by visiting my links above, following my above facebook pages, buying avon from me, or even better...Sign up to sell Avon WITH me! Be on my team with Reference code: MelanieR  or www.JoinMelanie.com straight to the sign up to be a Rep page!  Join me!

Take care EveryMom!  Happy Dancing!
Sincerely,
Melanie R.

Coming Soon: Reflection

My next few posts will be about "Reflection!"

I will be reflecting on this past year's season of Dance.  Teams, Competitions, Rec Classes with Team Classes, and more.

I will focus on Reflection because the season has pretty much ended (just the recital and recital rehearsals left to go).  I want to reflect so the coming up season will make sense knowing how our first year went/was....a Background of information...if you will.  :-)

Today my daughter has her last "real" Ballet (Rec) Class for the season. I say real because the recital is coming up this weekend and after that is over...they get to try out other classes, etc...  The transition from this season into the Summer classes begin.

Have a Happy Day,

Dance Mommin' Melanie

High Bun with Braid Before and Later

These first pictures were my first attempts at a high bun with a braid.

Finally, I made her VERY fine super long, uneven, curly hair into the below high bun with a braid!  I am still very proud of this.  I realize it may be a bit big but for my first comp season ever, we both survived and I felt good about how her bun/braid ended up each competition this season!

Phew!  Survived this bun with a braid!  I only have to do this two more times this year for rehearsal and recitals!  (Yep...two recitals as she takes a rec class plus on a team!)  I know she is a lightweight compared to many that take lots of classes. My shy girl needed to start small.  We found out she loves dance so much and doesn't tire of it!

Happy Mother's Day and keep on Dance Mommin'!

First Year of Comps Completed!

Hi Dance Mom Friends!

Phew!

My daughter and I just completed our first year of Dance Comps (Competitions)!  I say "our" because I had to learn all about this Dance Mommin' thing!  (Thought the name for the blog should be this as well.)  :-)  For my 6 year old dancer (now 7, birthday was in March in the middle of our competition season) it was a blast and all she had to do was learn her dance(s) and let mommy learn how to do hair, make up, buy bags after bags after bags, then learn to pack them, etc... Soo much!

I am not a "fancy" lady that wears a lot of make up (very basic).  Also, I don't style my hair other than wash it, let it dry, and brush it.  It's my style...plain.  :-)  Sooo, learning to do all this "fancy" stuff was a challenge.  I will say...I have LOVED every minute of it and so proud of my accomplishments, as far as, hair and make up.  I have much more to learn and looking forward to all the challenges.

My daughter loved her first year as a team dancer and loves the stage!  She was on our studio's youngest team ages 4-6 years old.  She was/is on the young Musical Theater team.  It was definitely a great genre to begin teams with for her.  She will be trying out for Lyrical, Jazz, and Tap teams for the next dance season.  Fingers crossed!  She is now 7 years old...so, for our studio, she is still on the younger end of the teams.

Sooo, if my daughter gets on the listed teams...that could mean up to 4 dances (aka: 4 costumes) for the next season.  I have a feeling this is going to be another whole year of learning again.  With quick changes with the hair, make up and costumes.  Yikes!

For the above reasons, I felt it was a great time to start a blog of my experiences and where I find items, what is necessary, what is not, and any other random new found knowledge that might help another mom out there!  Also, I hope to get advice out there from seasoned dance moms!

Thank you for visiting!
Until Next Time...Keep on Dance Mommin'!
Melanie
